School Tours 2021 at the Thumb Octagon Barn, Gagetown, will NOT be held in May 2021. The health/safety of the volunteers and visitors are of the utmost importance to the Friends of the Thumb Octagon Barn organization. Due to ‘museum guidelines,’ the current State and Federal stipulations preclude the ability to open the Thumb Octagon Agricultural Museum by May 2021 in order to hold School Tours this year.
Our plan is to return in May of 2022 and offer School Tours once again – which will be its 25th year. School Tours 2022 are scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th, Thursday, May 12, and Friday, May 13th, 2022! Mark your calendars/planners, plus check the website beginning in September 2021 for the registration form for educators to enroll their students for unique educational learning experience for preschool through eighth grade students. (thumboctagonbarn.org). Volunteers, we are looking for your return as well, plus bring your friends to volunteer also!
In 2022, highlighted will be the James and Cora Purdy house. It will be 100 years since the eleven room, seven bedroom house was completed! The Purdy family stayed for the first time in their newly built house on May 19, 1922. In Cora’s diary entry from May 19th, 1922, she wrote: “First night in the new house – all slept well.”
